Colt mkiv series 70 serial numbers 70g8/30/2023 It makes for a rather attractive and effective scheme.ģ. The rear sight has no overhang in the rear and is flush with the top of the slide. This was a rather common modification to 1911s in the 1970s and I've seen various forms of it, but this one is exceptionally well done. I've never been a revolver shooter, but I now appreciate the sight system the old S&W's used. The small original sights have been replaced by S&W adjustable rear sight and a fixed ramp front sight. Or perhaps, the original owner wanted a commander sized gun that still said "Colt's Government Model" upon the slide. Why this was done is anyone's guess, but perhaps this was done before all steel commanders became readily available. This was done very expertly and I'm sure rather expensively. Most prominently, the slide has been cut down to be converted into Commander length. The previous owner had many older custom features done to the gun. From the serial number, it appears the gun was manufactured in the year 1970 and was one of the first series 70 guns made. The gun started its life as a Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model. This is a unique gun that I acquired some time ago.
